Jimmy Barker, CNC
Founder, Wellness Coach
I created BioDesign as a way to empower those of you who are tired and frustrated with your health because nothing seems to work for you. It all started after I almost lost my mom due to our failing healthcare system and I knew there had to be a better way for her to stay healthy. Sadly our “health-care” has become a “sick-care” system based around using medications and procedures to treat symptoms—not focused on resolving the root cause. I’ve had to deal with my own health challenges including IBS, allergies, leaky gut, food sensitivities, acne, hormone imbalances and sleep problems, but I’ve used our methods to overcome these issues. I’m a big believer in practicing what I preach; so I try every diet, diagnostic test, fitness technique and supplement before recommending it to our practice members. This gives me a better understanding of what actually works so I can help you get better results. I’m committed to continuously improving our program by providing an extremely knowledgeable & caring team to work with you, cutting edge testing methods to determine the root cause of your health problems and proven treatment methods so we can offer you results when no one else has been able to. I can’t wait to share our program with you and provide you the health experience that will last a lifetime.

You’re about to embark on a journey to optimal health. You need a guide who’s not only knowledgeable, but also passionate about healthcare and caring with his clientele. This is perhaps the most important journey of your life, so choose wisely.
My journey began when I was sixteen visiting my chronically ill grandparents at the hospital. My grandmother was a smoker with emphysema, and my grandfather, a WWII Veteran, had heart disease and diabetes. As I looked around that hospital, I felt a sense of injustice. The number of chronically ill people in beds astounded me. Would this be my fate? I wondered. Did it have to be? These are the questions that started me thinking about a career in medicine, but I didn’t make that career decision until I was in my twenties
In 1996, I graduated from Shenandoah University in Winchester VA, where I had studied Pre Med/Biology. I spent the next two years working as an advanced behavioral therapist in NYC, with children on the autism spectrum, during which time I gained a good deal of insight into how the environment, diet, heavy metals, and overuse of childhood vaccinations were influencing the rise in autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). This was one of the main reasons I chose a holistic route, even though I did not continue to treat autistic children for very long.
I attended Life University and earned my Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) in 2002. Shortly thereafter, I became a Certified Digestive Health Specialist through the Food Enzyme Institute and began to practice enzyme nutrition — a detailed study of digestive disorders, food allergies, and dietary modifications. After about five years, I began to notice its limitations. I was able to help many people with basic digestive problems, but if they continued to struggle with low energy, weight loss, hair loss, or metabolic issues (such as hypothyroid, diabetes, chronic fatigue, arthritis, or autoimmunity), I didn’t see the success rate I had hoped for. Then I got sick, and the enzymes were not enough to help. I needed more information, so I started to take functional medicine courses on infection, endocrinology, mastering blood chemistry, and so on.
Eventually, I earned my certification as a Functional Medicine Practitioner and became a Diplomate in Clinical Nutrition.
Fast forward twenty-five years. My dad has diabetes and colon and liver cancer. My mom has autoimmune thyroid disease. Having the aforementioned family history and a family of my own, I had a full check-up that revealed a borderline autoimmune thyroid and elevated blood sugar. I was about to become my own first patient.
I refused to let genetics determine my fate.
Over time, I successfully adjusted my lifestyle. I now feel strong, alert, and energized. I no longer have elevated blood sugar, and although I have an increased susceptibility to autoimmune thyroid, I am symptom-free. Perhaps best of all, I can look forward to a long and vigorous life, staying active with my wife and two daughters, hiking, backpacking, playing sports, and spending time in the most beautiful places I’ve visited in the world so far — Martha’s Vineyard Ice Pond and Negril Jamaica Sunset.
Over the last fifteen years in practice I have had the pleasure of working with people who are seeking better outcomes than what the current healthcare system offered them. I find it especially rewarding to help those with chronic conditions, such as hypothyroid, chronic digestive complaints, diabetes, pain, and chronic fatigue feel better than they were led to believe they ever would and regain their youth and vigor.
My journey to optimal health started when I visited my grandparents in the hospital. I hope that your journey starts today.
Dr Winston Cope, M.D.
After graduating from the College of Medicine at the University of Florida in 1972, I turned my focus to internal medicine and ophthalmology. This unique combination allows me to treat a variety of health problems more effectively by treating the body as a whole. Over the years I became very interested in the aging process and earned multiple certifications in anti-aging in addition to becoming a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. I really enjoy using my decades of experience and diverse knowledge background to help our team determine the best course of action for each of our practice members so that they can overcome their health challenges. I look forward to helping you conquer any health challenges you may be facing so that you too can enjoy a healthy and happy life.
Patient Care Coordinator
I have worked for BioDesign Wellness from the beginning. My favorite part is watching our client’s lives completely change for the better. From weight loss, to stress, to overall health, seeing an improvement in peoples lives is something you never get tired of seeing. You may not see me as often as my co-workers but I am diligently working behind the scenes keeping the office running smoothly so we can deliver the best customer service and results for our clients.
I am the smiling face when you walk into the clinic. One of my favorite aspects of working at BioDesign Wellness is the learning environment that has been created for both patients and employees. I have learned a great deal both personally and professionally, and I owe that to my co-workers and the kind patients here at the clinic. Getting to know each patient on a personal level while watching them experience positive lifestyle changes is so encouraging, and pushes me to continuously learn each and every day. From scheduling appointments to e-mailing over documents, I am here to help you with whatever you may need!

Certified Nutrition Coach
I grew up in Small Town, USA with 5 siblings in a household that LOVED to get together for any occasion possible. Of course these occasions were accompanied with tons of food! Growing up we all lived extremely active lifestyles and we ate all natural foods fresh from our farm; no one was ever sick and life was always good. After leaving my childhood home, I soon found that this was not the norm for many people, and sickness and disease typically thrived alongside poor diet habits.
This is why I set out to earn my Master’s Degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science. I went into nutrition coaching in order to impact people’s lives in the best way I knew possible. Over the years I have helped my clients understand and maximize their results through both motivation and education. My goal is to help you see the best progress possible and enjoy the journey along the way!
